Symptoms

1. OpenListing Failed. Error: Unknown disk type Failed OpenListing for \\esx0i_host_ip\ha-datacenter\vm_name\ The error is reported when attempting a backup for a VADP backup set.

2. OpenListing failed. error: Failed to get property 'name' for Folder object Failed OpenListing for \\IP-of-vCenter The error pops-up when attempting to create a VM replication backup set, at the time the credentials to connect to the Source VM replication vCenter are provided.

Cause

1. The ESXi host holding the virtual machine to be backed up is a free version.

2. The backup set source user domain name has incorrect format, or incorrect domain name.

Workaround

1. The "vSphere API" and "Storage APIs" features are not licensed for the backup target ESXi host, according to the VMWare KB: https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1021175 The Data Protection APIs are included with all licensed vSphere editions: Standard, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus.

2. Enter the vCenter credentials in the backup set "share information" tap in a format like user@fqdn (instead of domain\user) and ensure the correct domain name is provided.

3. Restart the DS-Client service
