Exchange 2010 – Object could not be found. (Path_to_email)

Failed to read mail : Object could not be found. (Path_to_email)

Symptoms

The error is reported when a backup session is triggered for an emails backup set protecting Exchange Server 2007 or 2010 or when trying to expand any mailbox while editing the backup selection in DS-User for an emails backup set.

Cause

  1. a) the MAPI Client was installed after DS-Recovery Tools deployment. b) the backup selection includes public folder items and the public folder access needs additional configuration for DS-MLR; c) a third-party application deployment removed the Exchange service entries from C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mapisvc.inf file -this file is the main MAPI configuration file and it should contain the Exchange service related entries for a successful emails backup. d) The DS-MLR service account does not have a mailbox created on the backup target server

Workaround

  1. a) restart DS-Message Level Restore service b) Ensure DS-MLR is version is 11.0 hot fix 3 or higher; on DS-MLR computer, open the registry editor ( Start > run > regedit ) and add a value ( Multi-String type ) called PublicFolderAccounts under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DS-Message Level Restore\Parameters. Once the PublicFolderAccounts value added set it to user@fqdn ( for example:[email protected]) – this domain user should have permissions to access the public folders added to backup selection. c) download MFCMAPIx86 and launch it on DS-MLR computer, then go to Profile > Advanced Profile > Add Service, tick "Exchange" and save the change, then restart DS-MLR service. d) create a mailbox for the DS-MLR service account, during backup DS-MLR needs to create MAPI profiles, only a mai-enabled or mailbox-enabled user can create such profiles.
